Our last blog entry was about the different types of tequilas that are available. Now that you have some general knowledge about tequila, what better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with a Tequila themed party? Drinking tequila has always been a huge Mexican tradition. Below we have listed recipes, decorations, and cocktail ideas that can make your celebration festive and Tequila- filled. All of our recipes feature Campo Azul Tequila, which is a unique Tequila that we carry here at Garvey Wholesale. Campo Azul Tequila is produced from blue agave that is grown from their own agave plantations in Jalisco, Mexico. Jalisco is the tequila region in Mexico known for their production of fine tequilas. The agave used in Campo Azul is grown for over 7 years before it is harvested to produce the tequila. After the heart of the plant is baked, it goes through a process called shredding, which extracts remaining sugars from the plant. What makes Campo Azul Tequila unique is the fact that it is one of the very few distillers to use a diffuser to shred the agave into fine strips and wash the fruit. With the use of a diffuser, the agave does not need to be cooked beforehand, and allows for 20 percent more sugar to be extracted. This is what gives Campo Azul Tequila its sweet and full-bodied flavor.
Not only is tequila great for drinking, but its unusual flavors also pair surprisingly well with a large variety of different foods. Food infused in tequila are more flavorful because of the strong contrast that it can have over other flavors.
Below are some ideas that are simple and fun to try for your celebration this year. Try out Campo Azul in these Cinco de Mayo recipes!
Tequila Soaked Watermelon Wedges:
A simple and tasty treat to make for this holiday. All you need is some watermelon and Campo Azul Tequila. You can cut up your watermelon into desired sizes and then place them in a tray and pour your desired amount of Campo Azul Tequila over them. If you want the tequila flavors to be stronger, you can pour more. Let the watermelon soak for 45 minutes to an hour in the fridge, and they will be perfect to eat. You can also add some lime juice and dissolved sugar water to bring out more flavors. Adding other fruits such as Mango and Pineapple can turn this simple treat into a Tequila Fruit Salad!
Roasted Corn with Tequila Lime Butter:
This is another simple and amazingly delicious treat to serve on Cinco de Mayo. While your corn is roasting, melt some butter along with some lime juice, salt, and a teaspoon of Campo Azul Tequila in a saucepan. You can add other seasonings or ingredients such as Cilantro and pepper. When the corn is done, you can roll it in the mixture or you can wait until the butter hardens up again and spread it on your corn. Garnish with chili powder if desired!
How can cheese dip possibly taste better than it already is? By adding some Campo Azul Tequila! You can mix 8 ounces of your favorite Mexican melting cheese with 3 tablespoons of Campo Azul Blanco Tequila to have a delicious Tequila infused cheese concoction. All you need to do is heat up the Tequila on the stove and melt the cheese in. You can also add other ingredients such as olive oil, onions, garlic, peppers and cilantro if you’d like.
