Top Shelf vs. Bottom Shelf Liquor

It's a common train of thought that the products that cost the most are what will spare you a day-after headache and will taste closer to liquid gold the most you shell out. Now, we're not here to prove anything wrong or right, rather than just clarify what exactly you're paying for when you decide to pay that heft price tag. 

Simply put, here's what makes 'high end liqueur', or top shelf products, so high end.

  • Higher quality and/or specialty ingredients

    • For products such as:
      • Grapes for wine
      • Freshly pressed sugarcane (instead of molasses) for rum
  • Intricate distillation processes

    • better distillation means less impurities in the products
    • For products such as:
      • Tequila
      • Vodka
  • Celebrity endorsement and/or creation

It's easy to get into the mindset that the more money spent on a product, the better tasting it will be. The issue with this, however, is that everyone has their own preferences when it comes to drinks. Some will consider $5 wines to be the greatest drinks they've ever tasted and others will not hesitate to spend triple digits on the same type of product.

There are some disclaimers to be made when purchasing high end products, especially tequila and vodka. The more times a product is distilled, the lower the alcohol content will tend to be. Additionally, distilling a product more than a certain number of times will have no substantial effect on the taste or texture of the product.

In the end, it's all a matter of personal taste and what one thinks is worth it in the end.

Halloween vs. Day of the Dead

Hello, friends! The time of year is upon us where we start to scramble for last minute costumes for those upcoming themed parties. Now to spare you a night of minor embarrassment, we want to remind you of the differences between Halloween and Day of the Dead festivities, because the last thing you want is to go to your friend's Dia de los Muertos celebration dressed up as Harley Quinn.

Here's the breakdown...

The primary difference here is how much more personal day of the dead celebrations usually are compared to Halloween. For these celebrations, drinks are usually based on what the loved ones' favorites used to be and are then drank in honor of them. Costumes are not worn here, though sometimes faces are painted similar to the designs seen on sugar skulls.
