How to Attract New, Younger Customers

If you're finding yourself in a position where you're not meeting as many new customers at your bar, restaurant, or liquor store, it may be because you're neglecting the latest demographic to reach their drinking age. The most recent generation to reach drinking age, or "Millennials", is noted to be the largest generation in terms of size, consisting of over 70 million people. Here's some tips on how to appeal to these customers by improving on what you're already doing and without losing your business's appeal to your older customers. 

  1. Showcase your sales and coupons. Millennials are large in size but they do not have as much money as your older customers. Show them that they can enjoy an after work drink at your business without their having to empty their wallet. If you already run specials during the week or weekends, take a couple of minutes to advertise this through Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, or Twitter for free!
  2. Get your business online. You don't need to have a website to do this. Like we mentioned earlier, you can make a free account on nearly any social media site and use this to show customers where you're located as well as what your business has to offer. Not only millennials, but other customers are more likely to check out your business if they can find your business and information online with social media accounts attached.
  3. Focus on flavor. If you have any specialty drinks that you carry or create, advertise this as much as possible in whatever ways you can. Studies have shown that younger generations are attracted to unique, specialty dishes and drinks that stand out more so than older generations. This does not mean that you need to redo your entire menu! Having one to two unique products will go a long way with this.
  4. Show off what's new. Did you just bring in a new product? Let your customers know! You may be the only business in the area that carries this and that's something to showcase. Showing off that you're updating your inventory and menu will make you stand out from the other businesses around you.
